The Youth Collection contains children's and young adult books and videos. This collection is located on the 2nd floor of Michener Library. Materials in the collection are listed in the Libraries online catalog, where they have the location designation MICH YOUTH. They may be checked out at the main desk on the 1st floor of Michener Library.

The books are divided into the following separate sections:

  • Big Books - large books for use with groups including nonfiction, easy, and Caldecott titles; located on a rack by the short shelves
  • Easy - picture story books arranged alphabetically by author; located on the short shelves
  • Caldecott Award winner and honor books - picture books honored for their illustrations; located on the short shelves by year of award
  • Newbery Award winner and honor books - chapter books honored for their overall quality; located on the short shelves by year of award
  • Nonfiction - picture and chapter books arranged by subject as designated by the Dewey Decimal Classification system; located on the tall shelves with oversize nonfiction located on the short shelves.
  • Fiction - chapter story books arranged alphabetically by author; located on the tall shelves
  • Other award winning titles, such as Americas Award, Coretta Scott King Award, and Colorado Children's Book Award, can be located in the collection through use of guides available in the area
