Chapter 10 of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association, 7th Edition, explains how to cite a dissertation from an institutional database like Digital UNC.

Some examples give only a URL to a landing page for all the theses and dissertations in a particular institutional database (https://ohiolink.edu/etd/). Listed below are general URLs to Digital UNC that may be appropriate to use in citations. However, Digital UNC also has permanent URLs called handles that may be a better option than a general URL (see the example citation below).

Digital UNC URLs:

  • “Dissertations” page http://digscholarship.unco.edu/dissertations/
  • "Capstones" page http://digscholarship.unco.edu/capstones/
  • "Theses" page http://digscholarship.unco.edu/theses/
  • Digital UNC homepage http://www.unco.edu/library/digital_unc/index.aspx

Basic Format

Author last name, A. G. (year).  Title [Doctoral dissertation, University of Northern Colorado). Digital UNC.

Example

Clark, A. (2013). Effectiveness of the Dangerous Decibels program in children when delivered with parental

involvement [Doctoral dissertation, University of Northern Colorado]. Digital UNC.
